During the first week of October, the 11th annual New York Comic Con will be invading Manhattan. That means four days of comics, cosplay and pop-cultural chaos at the Javits Convention Center (October 6-9). Including, of course, previews, highlights and reflections from the world of animation. So with the show’s full program now released, let’s take a day-by-day look at some of the most interesting and exciting animation-related events at NYCC 2016.
Thursday, October 6
25 Years of Captain Planet & The Planeteers (12:15 PM – 1:15 PM, Room 1A06)
The team behind the world’s first environmental superhero reunites for the first time to discuss the creation and impact of Captain Planet & the Planeteers.
Funimation Industry Panel (12:30 PM – 1:30 PM, Room 1A10)
From Akira to Dragon Ball Z, get the inside scoop from North America’s largest anime distributor—Funimation.
Crunchyroll Industry Panel: Anime, Manga and So Much More (1:45 PM – 2:45 PM, Room 1A10)
If you are a fan of anime, manga, and everything coming out of Japan right now you, this is a panel for you. Crunchyroll, your source of all things anime and manga, will be talking about their streaming service and all the hottest titles streaming currently.
Gamification Of The Classroom: Taking Classroom Fun To The Next Level With Gaming (2:45 PM – 3:45 PM, Room 1B03)
Admittedly, this panel doesn’t explicitly fit within the animation ecosystem. But given the focus we’ve perviously paid to animation + gamification (like this post: Leveraging Animated Video for E-Learning), we wanted to at least highlight the listening. In this panel, teachers and industry professionals will offer valuable advice on how to not only design gamified units and lessons but also the tools on how to effectively implement them in a classroom environment.
The Future of Comics in New Realities (3:00 PM – 4:00 PM, Room 1A10)
Creative minds from comics, entertainment, and technology join this discussion on the future of comics in Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality and Mixed Reality.
Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders (5:30 PM – 7:30 PM, Main Stage 1-D)
NYCC will screen the world premiere of the highly-anticipated Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders. And on hand will be none other than… Adam West!
Archer: Screening Q&A (6:45 PM – 7:45 PM, Hammerstein Ballroom – 311 W 34th St)
Fresh off winning its first Emmy Award, FX’s animated spy comedy Archer will have a special screening along with key members of the show.
Friday, October 7
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles – Rise of the Super Shredder (2:45 PM – 3:45 PM, Hammerstein Ballroom – 311 W 34th St)
Executive Producer Ciro Nieli shares an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the epic adventures and new characters awaiting the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. On hand will be the extraordinary voice actors of the TMNT world; Rob Paulsen (Donatello), Greg Cipes (Michelangelo), Hoon Lee (Master Splinter) and Kevin Michael Richardson (Shredder)
Titmouse, Inc. (3:00 PM – 4:00 PM, Room 1A05)
Talk with directors, creators, producers and animators from one of the largest 2D animation studios in America.

On Adult Swim’s upcoming animated series Dream Corp, LLC, each week desperate patients have their dreams recorded and analyzed by Dream Corp’s absent-minded professor, Dr. Roberts, and his team of unremarkable scientists. Gabriel Hardman (Invisible Republic), Declan Shalvey (Injection), Marjorie Liu (Monstress), Bryan Hill (Romulus) and a couple special guests talk about the nuances of crafting story.
Archie Comics Forever: 75 Years of Storytelling (3:00 PM – 4:00 PM, Room 1A05)
Get exclusive news on upcoming Archie titles and a look at The CW’s Riverdale TV show! Panel features Jon Goldwater (co-CEO/publisher), Victor Gorelick (co-president/editor-in-chief), Mike Pellerito (president) and Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa (chief creative officer)
Marvel Animation Presents (5:30 PM – 6:30 PM, Room 1A06)
Hosted by Cort Lane (SVP, Animation and Family Entertainment) and Stephen Wacker (VP, Current Series & Development), this panel will feature exclusive sneak peeks from upcoming episodes, scoops on exciting new projects in development, and a special reveal of Marvel’s biggest new animated project.
God Eater (9:00 PM – 10:00 PM, Room 1A02)
In the anime adaptation of the God Eater videogame series, the year is 2071 and the world ravaged by mad gods. Our only hope? An elite force called “God Eaters.” If this sounds up your alley, check out a special screening of new episodes from the upcoming season.

Marvel’s Hulk: Where Monsters Dwell (10:30 AM – 12:00 PM, Room 1A06)
On Sunday morning, Marvel Animation unveils the world premiere of Hulk: Where Monsters Dwell, a feature-length animated film that follows Hulk, Doctor Strange, and the Howling Commandos on a mission to stop Nightmare from conquering the world.
Crackle Presents: SuperMansion (11:00 AM – 12:00 PM, Hammerstein Ballroom – 311 W 34th St)
Voice actors Keegan Michael-Key, Breckin Meyer, along with the shows co-creators Matthew Senreich and Zeb Wells unveil new details about their critically-acclaimed stop motion animated comedy series SuperMansion.
Rooster Teeth’s RWBY (12:45 PM – 1:45 PM, Main Stage 1-D)
