Video is a compelling visual medium to engage potential customers, improve search engine ranking, and increase online visibility. Not to mention it’s a great way in general to increase the visibility of your brand, improve conversion rates, and lead back to your webpage.
Taking the time to formulate a careful strategy for your online video content can vastly improve your SEO.
While Google’s search engine algorithm is constantly changing, post-Panda Google favors content that incentivizes users to stay with a page. This was great news for video, as video statistically engages an audience for a longer period of time than text. This lowers your bounce rate and increases the time visitors spend on your page.
Some things to consider when displaying your video for increased SEO…

Keywords – The more specific the better. For example, a video title such as “dog” won’t yield better SEO results. Yet, “German shepherd police dog” will score higher with Google’s algorithm. One quirk of Google’s algorithm is that it tends to favor videos whose titles match the title tag of the page.

Transcribe – As Google can’t yet read the audio content of a video in the same way they can process text, a good way to hit the keywords contained within the video is to transcribe the video word for word. Surround your video with on-page copy that can be easily indexed by search engines. YouTube now has a setting that automatically generates captions. It also contains a transcription button which can be accessed on the video page as well.
If pressed for time, consider outsourcing your transcription with a service like Speechpad.
Get It Out There –The more places your video lives and is visible, the higher your SEO ranking will be. Sites like Digg, Reddit, or StumbleUpon are great venues for disseminating your video. Also, try submitting your video to RSS feeds for an extra boost.
Sharing is Key – Make sure to always have easy share links at the ready wherever your video exists.
